From Earth Shock To Riptide

Wow, 6 months since my last post.  Wondering what I’ve been up to?  Honestly, probably not, but I’m going to post about it anyway.  And as a bonus to the reader, I’ll cut right to the chase: I’m back to playing my shaman full time! I’ve been playing him full time now for almost four months. All thanks to dual specs.

With almost all goods news comes some bad other news.  My primary spec is now restoration (secondary spec is still enhancement).  I have to admit that I’m loving it. I like the healing style of the shaman more than the druid – it just fits me better.  Plus, I managed to switch my main without interfering with my guild’s progression through Ulduar (more details on that after the break).  Suffice it to say that I hope to start posting more about both enhancement and resto shaman in the near future.

So how did I switch my main character?

By taking full advantage of the Argent Tournament and the heroic 5-man version of Trial of the Champion.  With that new instance I was able to get my hands on several pieces of 219 healing gear.  Those pieces plus gear and emblems from heroic dailies was all I needed to catch up to the required item level for Ulduar (10-man).

Time wise it took me about a month, but someone with more dedication could shorten that to three weeks or less.  I would run the heroic daily around four times per week and follow that up with heroic ToC and a VoA PUG if I could manage it.  My first few times healing heroics were a little rough, but after a few runs I got use to the new healing style plus I acquired a few additional pieces of gear which helped out.

I’m much happier with the shaman healing style over the druid’s.  It seems more offensive and aggressive compared to a druid’s more defensive and calculated healing style.

Interestingly enough there’s another chance for switching mains right now.  With the introduction of Icecrown Citadel and the fact that Emblems of Triumph will be falling from the sky like candy now is the best time to pick up new (or off-spec) gear.  Normal mode drops level 219 gear and heroic drops 232 gear.  If you have any interest in switching mains now’s the time to do it.
